Watertown Lakers Roll to Jr. Gold Title with Unbeaten Fargo Run

FARGO, N.D. – Watertown Lakers boys hockey found championship success, taking home the gold at the 2025 Woodchipper Classic Jr. Gold 18UB Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota over the weekend.

Game one of the tournament on Friday saw Watertown slid past Langdon 9-3. Boston Butler, Jett Van Gilder (2), Colton Kasuske, Tyler Roberts, Jayven McNamara, and Aidyn Melville (2) all scored goals in the contest.

The Lakers skated past Tri-City 6-1 Saturday. Jack Elshere, Tylson Lawrence, Aidyn Melville, Taite Marko, Jett Van Gilder, and Tylson Lawrence notched a goal for Watertown. The Lakers outshot Tri-City 37-17.

Kohl Nygaard’s shutout propelled Watertown past Aberdeen 6-0 in the semifinal on Sunday. Nygaard stopped all 18 shots on goal. Tyler Roberts, Jett Van Gilder, Jack Elshere, Aidyn Melville, Bailey Dorneman and Boston Butler lit the lamp for the Lakers.

A second straight shutout by Nygaard sent Watertown past Langdon 3-0 in the Woodchipper Classic championship game. Nygaard again stopped all 20 shots on goal. Colton Kasuske had a two-goal afternoon and Kolten Sutton notched a goal in the contest.

Next up for Lakers boys hockey is a game on the road at Sioux Falls East on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.
