AUSTIN, MN – The Watertown Shamrocks fell twice over the weekend to the Austin Bruins.
A four-goal third period on Friday sank the Shamrocks, who lost 5-2. Watertown took a 2-1 lead going into the third with second-period goals by Erick Comstock (5:43) and Kyle Greene (0:38). A power-play goal at 15:37 by the Bruins’ Gavin Hruza tied things up. Austin took the lead two minutes later with a goal by Matsvei Marshchanok. EJ Paddington tacked on a power-play goal at 9:20, and Siamion Marshchanok added an empty-netter at 0:55.
Despite being outshot 35-32 on Saturday, Austin came away victorious, 3-1. The Shamrocks’ lone goal came from Joe Rice on the power play at 3:17 in the first. The Bruins’ Austin Doyle tied things up at 1-1 with a goal at 4:47 of the second period. Austin took the lead 2-1 as Gavin Hruza slid one in on a power play at 0:03. Hruza scored the empty-netter at 0:18 in the third.
Watertown (12-12-0-0) returns home to face Bismarck on December 19 and 20.
