FORT PIERRE — A three-goal second period propelled the Oahe Capitals to a 4-2 win over Watertown in high school boys hockey on Saturday.
The Lakers’ offense came alive late in the third period. Kolten Sutten put Watertown on the board at the 4:23 mark during a power play, assisted by Aidyn Melville and Jack Elshere. Melville followed up with an unassisted goal with just 1:49 remaining. Despite the late push, the Capitals outshot the Lakers 37-18.
The Watertown girls did not fare much better, falling to Oahe 6-2. Emma Schleusner capitalized on a power play at 6:17 in the first period with an assist from Keagan Stolp. Lily Murray added a second power-play goal at 8:28 in the second, assisted by Gracelyn Webb and Piper Krueger. The Capitals held a 36-24 advantage in shots on goal.
Next up for the Lakers, the girls host Sioux Falls on Dec. 26, while the boys travel to Aberdeen that same day.
