Lakers dominate Icecats; girls fall in tight contest at Oahe

WATERTOWN, S.D. – Nine different Watertown Lakers scored in an 11-3 rout of the Brandon Valley Icecats on Saturday at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.

Aidyn Melville and Jack Elshere started the scoring for Watertown in the first period to make the score 2-0. Tyler Roberts and Colin Solheim each tacked on two goals in the second. Boston Butler and Melville’s second goal of the night completed a six-goal period to put the Lakers up 8-3. Colton Kasuske, Bailey Borneman and Trever Young added to the Watertown total with goals in the third.

Solheim led the team with four assists, while Elshere added three. Watertown outshot Brandon Valley 45-23.

Laker girls fall at Oahe

In Fort Pierre, Oahe escaped with a 2-1 win over Watertown in high school girls hockey action Saturday.

Emma Schleusner scored the lone Laker goal unassisted at 8:49 of the second period to give Watertown a 1-0 lead. Ainsley Ries tied the game with 26 seconds left in the second. Kiersten Miller scored the game-winner for Oahe at 8:03 of the third period. The Capitals outshot the Lakers 32-20.

The Laker girls wrap up their weekend with a pair of games against the Mitchell Marlins on Sunday. The boys remain at home while the girls travel to Mitchell.
