Kasuske nets two as Watertown cruises past Mitchell

WATERTOWN, S.D. – Six different Watertown Lakers scored in a 7-2 rout of the Mitchell Marlins in high school boys hockey action Sunday at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.

Colton Kasuske started the scoring for Watertown, finding the back of the net just 43 seconds into the first period. Jack Elshere added another at the 14:17 mark of the second. Jayven McNamara tacked on a goal at 11:33, and Kasuske tallied his second of the day at 1:31 to give Watertown a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. Bailey Dorneman (12:56), Colin Solheim (9:28), and Aidyn Melville each lit the lamp in the final frame for the Lakers.

Melville and Kasuske led Watertown with two assists each. The Lakers outshot the Marlins 56-20.

Girls blanked by Mitchell

In Mitchell, Watertown was held scoreless in a 5-0 loss to the Marlins in high school girls hockey action. Mitchell outshot the Lakers 33-25 in the contest.

The Lakers girls travel back to Mitchell on Jan. 9, while the boys head to Huron on Jan. 10.
