Marlins Edge Lakers 2-1 on Strength of Early Power-Play Goals

Watertown Laker Hockey

MITCHELL, S.D. — Despite being outshot by Watertown 42-26, a two-goal first period was enough to lead the Mitchell Marlins past the Watertown Lakers 2-1 in girls high school hockey Friday night.

Livaya Mimmack and Makenna Tronnes scored power-play goals in the first period to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Harper Hendricks answered for Watertown with a power-play goal of her own in the second period, assisted by Sloane Allard, but it proved to be the Lakers’ only score of the night.

Kaylie O’Connor earned the win in net for Mitchell, while Nylah Vannelli took the loss for Watertown.

Watertown continues South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association play Sunday with a road game against the Sioux Center Storm.
