CLEAR LAKE, S.D. – It took an overtime period, but No. 3 Castlewood held off Deuel 71-63 in high school boys basketball Saturday night.
Down 59-56 with three seconds left in regulation, Deuel’s Troy Jensen hit a 3-pointer from the corner to send the game into overtime tied at 59. Defense proved the deciding factor in the extra frame as the Warriors pulled away for the win.
Kamden Keszler led all scorers with 32 points for Castlewood. Brody Bass added 18 points, while Leonard Wernke grabbed seven rebounds and scored seven points.
Troy Jensen tallied 26 points for Deuel and Justin Winter added 12. Kyle Finnesand nabbed 11 boards to go with seven points.
The Castlewood girls completed the doubleheader sweep with a 58-32 win over Deuel.
Sophia Kudrna led the Warriors with 15 points and eight boards. Ava Ruml added 13 points.
Graclyn Nielsen was Deuel’s leading scorer with 13 points. Camdyn Peterreins added 12, while Alayna Carlson had five points and seven rebounds.
Next up for Castlewood is a home doubleheader Jan. 13 against Clark/Willow Lake. Deuel remains home to face Arlington on Jan. 13.
