Watertown Girls Hockey Pulls Away in Third to Beat Sioux Center

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Four different Watertown Lakers scored in a 4-1 win over the Sioux Center Storm on Sunday in high school girls hockey.

Nylah Vannelli started the scoring for Watertown at 3:12 of the second period to put the Lakers up 1-0. Emma Schleusner and Harper Hendricks notched assists. Sioux Center’s Jaelyn Visser tied the game on a power play at 8:54 of the third period.

Sloane Allard gave Watertown a 2-1 lead on a power play goal at 6:21 of the third. Vannelli notched her first assist of the day, while Schleusner added her second. Alyssa Mathews stretched the Watertown lead to 3-1 at 4:36 of the third. Schleusner added her third assist of the evening and Hendricks her second. Schleusner then added an empty-net goal with five seconds left to secure the Laker victory.

Kira Reppe earned the win in net for Watertown, while Victory Pedergrass took the loss for Sioux Center. The Lakers outshot the Storm 31-27.

Watertown returns home for SDAHA action Jan. 17 against the Oahe Capitals.
