WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown Arrow boys basketball team is starting to turn heads across the state. The team has been receiving votes in the past few South Dakota Prep Media basketball polls.
This year’s squad features four seniors: Carter Buisker, Kaden Decker, Jackson McClemens and Ashton Rabine. Three of the four played significant minutes at the varsity level last season. The Arrows also see significant minutes from juniors Jack Mack, Isaac Rehorst, Landon Struckman, Max Martenson and Dane Stark.
“When you look at what we returned and the experience they gained last year, they all did quite a bit of work over the summer,” said Watertown coach Pat McClemens. “You’d like to think that because of some of the things they’ve done, they’ve put themselves into position maybe to be successful. You just hope as a coach they continue to be hungry and have success and continue to improve as a team.”
So far this year, the team has found success with a 7-1 record while averaging 64 points per game. Watertown’s only loss on the season came to Tea Area on Dec. 20, 65-61.
“We have to be happy with what we’ve done so far,” McClemens said. “I wouldn’t say we’re a completed project, or anything like that, but I think we should all be pretty happy with where we’re at right now.”
Watertown will continue to be on the road this week with a trip to Yankton on Jan. 16. Tests for the Arrows are on the horizon with home games against No. 1 Sioux Falls Lincoln on Feb. 3 and No. 2 Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Feb. 13.
