YANKTON, S.D. – Hot second-half shooting sent Watertown past Yankton 59-51 in high school boys basketball Friday night.
The Arrows started fast, leading 18-5 after the first quarter, but the Bucks roared back in the second. Yankton outscored Watertown 20-8 to trim the lead to 26-25 at halftime. After a back-and-forth third quarter, Watertown pulled away with a 21-14 run in the fourth to secure the victory.
The Arrows shot 52% from the field and 57% from 3-point range. Watertown was led by Carter Buisker with 19 points, while Kaden Decker added 13. Jackson McClemens recorded 10 points and six assists, and Jack Mack contributed nine points and seven rebounds. Dane Stark tallied six assists, five rebounds and three points.
Yankton’s Jackson Kudera led all scorers with 22 points. Owen Eidsness added 10. The Bucks shot 40% from the field in the contest.
In the girls’ half of the doubleheader, a big fourth quarter lifted Yankton past Watertown 59-46. Watertown led 26-22 at halftime, but the Gazelles outpaced the Arrows 37-20 in the second half, fueled by a 22-point fourth quarter.
Two Arrows reached double figures, led by Kynsee Russell with 12 points. Russell also grabbed four rebounds, dished six assists and recorded two steals. Andi Olson added 10 points, while Jordan Remmers grabbed five rebounds to go with five points.
Yankton’s Eden Wolfgram led all scorers with 26 points. Jordyn Kudera added 16.
The Watertown girls next travel to Tea Area on Jan. 20. The boys return to action for a home doubleheader against Rapid City Stevens and Central on Jan. 23 and 24.
