Late Surge Lifts Watertown Girls Past Brookings; Boys Cruise to 71-38 Win

WATERTOWN, S.D. – A dominant fourth quarter propelled the Watertown Arrow girls basketball team to its second victory of the season in a 45-40 win over Brookings on Saturday afternoon at the Watertown Civic Arena.

The teams were tied at 20 at halftime. While Brookings held a two-point lead heading into the final frame, Watertown surged back, holding the Bobcats to just six points in the fourth quarter while scoring 13 to claim the win. Emery Thury led the Arrows with 12 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Remmers added nine points and two steals, while Andi Olson recorded six points and four assists.

Julia Burns led Brookings with 12 points. Sloan McLagan added 11 points and three steals, and Taylee Canfield chipped in seven.

In the boys’ half of the doubleheader, Watertown recovered from a slow start to cruise to a 71-38 victory.

Brookings led 14-10 after the first quarter, but Watertown stifled the Bobcats in the second, holding them to five points to take a 32-19 lead into the break. The Arrows outscored their rivals 39-19 in the second half.

Four Arrows reached double figures, led by Carter Buisker’s 19 points and four assists. Kaden Decker and Jackson McClemans each added 14 points. Jack Mack recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, adding five assists and three steals. As a team, Watertown tallied 28 assists.

Drew Johnson led the Brookings attack with 14 points.

The Watertown boys (9-1) and girls (2-8) host Rapid City Stevens and Rapid City Central next Friday and Saturday.
