BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Brookings Rangers outshot the Watertown Lakers 39-25 en route to a 2-0 shutout in girls high school hockey Saturday
Sawyer Triplett scored the game-winner for Brookings at 2:57 of the second period. The Rangers’ Kinzey Grendler tacked on an empty-net goal with 16 seconds remaining in the contest.
Rorii Quamm earned the shutout win for Brookings. Kira Reppe took the loss in net for the Lakers.
On the boys’ side, Watertown and Brookings played to a 2-2 tie.
Grady Bodsberg started the scoring for the Lakers at 12:05 of the first period with an assist from Boston Butler. Jason Ready tied the game for the Rangers at 6:52 of the second. Kolten Sutten regained the lead for Watertown at 11:51 of the third period on Butler’s second assist of the night.
Brookings forced overtime with a power-play goal by Parker Nielsen at 1:21 of the third. Watertown’s Kohl Nygaard and Brookings’ Ryder Anderson held steady in net during the bonus period to secure the tie.
Brookings outshot Watertown 49-16 in the game.
The Watertown boys return to SDAHA action on the road against Yankton on Jan. 31. The Laker girls travel to Aberdeen on Jan. 25.
