Second-Quarter Surge Propels Watertown Past Stevens

WATERTOWN, S.D. – A dominant second quarter powered Watertown past Rapid City Stevens 69-52 Friday in high school boys basketball at the Watertown Civic Arena.

Watertown held a slim 18-15 lead after the first quarter, but a 23-point surge in the second gave the Arrows a 41-24 lead at halftime. Both teams scored 28 points in the second half, but the Arrows’ second-quarter cushion secured the win.

Three players reached double figures for Watertown, led by Isaac Rehorst with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jackson McClemenas tallied 13 points, eight assists, and four steals. Carter Buisker added 12 points and four assists, while Jack Mack finished with nine points and six assists.

As a team, Watertown shot 53% from the field and recorded 25 assists.

Seth Paugh led the Raiders with 17 points, and Peyton Crawford added 11.

In the girls’ half of the doubleheader, Stevens jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 62-32 win over Watertown.

Andi Olson led the Watertown attack with eight points. Emma Olson added seven, while Kynsee Russell finished with five points, three assists, and three steals.

Stevens was led by Mackenzie Schreiber with 17 points. Finley Love added 10.

Watertown basketball continues its homestand against Rapid City Central on Saturday afternoon.
