Rangers Sweep Lakers in ‘Stick It To Cancer’ Doubleheader

WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown Laker boys and girls hockey teams fell to the Brookings Rangers Saturday during Stick It To Cancer Weekend.

The Laker boys lost 5-1. The Rangers jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first period with goals from Talon Hyde, Nolan Krogman and Cade Zweber. Boston Butler scored Watertown’s lone goal at 6:31 of the second period, with assists from Jack Elshere and Tyson Lawrence. Jason Ready added two more for the Rangers in the third — one on the power play and an empty-netter — to seal the win. Brookings outshot Watertown 29-10.

In the girls’ game, Rorii Quam earned the shutout in net as Brookings blanked Watertown 3-0. Goals for the Rangers came from Kinzey Grendler (two) and Ana Rasmussen. Brookings outshot Watertown 40-20.

The Laker boys and girls hit the road for a pair of games next weekend at Sioux Falls and Sioux Center.
