PIERRE, S.D. — High school football fans in the Sioux Falls area will see several inter-state clashes over the next two years, as the South Dakota High School Activities Association and the Nebraska School Activities Association announced a new scheduling partnership Wednesday.
The collaboration secures nonconference games between South Dakota’s Class 11AAA schools and programs in the Omaha, Nebraska, metro area. While officials said they could not fulfill every requested matchup for this cycle, they view the agreement as a significant step toward more frequent “crossover” contests in the future.
“Meaningful progress was made through this cooperative effort,” the SDHSAA said in a statement. “The SDHSAA remains hopeful that additional crossover contests can be explored in the next two-year scheduling cycle.”
The following matchups are finalized for the upcoming season. For the second year of the cycle, the matchups will remain the same but home-field advantage will flip:
Aug. 28: Brandon Valley at Bellevue West
Sept. 18: Sioux Falls Washington at Millard North
Sept. 25: Omaha Central at Sioux Falls Lincoln
Oct. 2: Omaha Westview at Sioux Falls Jefferson
Oct. 9: Omaha North at Harrisburg
Full schedules for Class 11AAA and all other South Dakota classifications are still being finalized and will be released at a later date. Today’s early announcement was timed to coincide with the NSAA’s official schedule release in Nebraska.
