Arrows Claim Third at Class A State Wrestling Duals

PIERRE, S.D. – The Watertown wrestling squad took home a third-place finish at the 2026 Class A State Wrestling Duals held in Pierre on Friday. Sturgis Brown claimed the Class A crown with a dominant 58-7 win over Aberdeen Central. The host team, Pierre, placed fifth after a 41-27 win over Harrisburg.

Watertown opened the day with a 44-24 win over Pierre in the quarterfinal rounds. Braylon Schell (106), Chase Mathews (120), Brody Randall (126), Shea Richter (132), Kutler Swenson (138), Gage Lohr (157), Markus Pitkin (165), Landen Lewis (175), and Cade Kuemper (190) racked up wins for the Arrows.

Watertown fell to Sturgis 43-23 in the semifinals. Schell, Randall, Richter, Swenson, Lohr, and Pitkin each saw their hands raised for Watertown.

In the third-place match, Watertown edged Brandon Valley 37-31 to secure the bronze. The win avenged a duals loss to the Lynx on Jan. 27. Schell, Jonah Anderson (113), Randall, Richter, Max Stroup (138), Kutler Swenson (144), Lohr, and Pitkin tallied points for the Arrows.

The Arrow wrestlers will tune up for the individual state tournament at the Region 1A meet in Dell Rapids on Feb. 21.
