Lakers’ Late Rally Falls Short in One-Goal Loss to Cougars

WATERTOWN, S.D. – Chloe Vikander held strong in net during the third period to help Aberdeen edge Watertown 4-3 in girls high school hockey Friday night at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.

The Cougars led 2-0 after the first period behind goals from Calley Gage and Rachel Siefken. Watertown answered in the second when Sheylin Strichers tallied an unassisted goal at 16:39. However, Leah Kranzler and Addyson Keller extended the Aberdeen lead to 4-1 by the 3:56 mark of the second.

Watertown surged back late in the period, scoring two unassisted goals just 45 seconds apart from Emma Schleusner and Nylah Vannelli. Despite the momentum shift, Vikander anchored a scoreless third period for the Cougars, finishing with 26 saves on 29 shots to secure the win.

Kira Reppe took the loss in net for Watertown. Aberdeen narrowly outshot the Lakers 29-27.

Watertown continues its homestand with a two-game series against Rushmore on Saturday and Sunday.
