Cyclones Crown Three Champions as Knights Secure Team Trophy at Region 1B

WEBSTER, S.D. – Kingsbury County placed 11 athletes, including one champion, and took home the team title at the Region 1B Wrestling Meet Saturday in Webster. Clark/Willow Lake placed third with a score of 153.5, Deuel/Deubrook finished sixth with 107, host Webster Area took ninth with 96.5, and Hamlin/Castlewood finished 12th with 27 points.

Kingsbury County had four wrestlers in championship matches, with Greyson Nielson taking the 157-pound title. Lane Albrecht (132), Cody Zell (144), and Breyten Johnson (285) all earned runner-up finishes. Other placing Knights included Willy Miller (sixth, 106), Remi St. Sauver (sixth, 113), Chase Henriksen (third, 120), Caden Singrey (fourth, 150), Blake Jennings (third, 165), Donovan Sandven (third, 175), and Liam Gunnon (third, 190).

Clark/Willow Lake featured three champions: Cade Gaikowski (120), Kaden Wookey (126), and Cooper Pommer (138). Isaac Johnson (150) took home runner-up honors. Other placing Cyclones included Maverick Clausen (third, 113), Benny Pommer (third, 132), Logan Foster (sixth, 144), and Austin Vig (fourth, 165).

Deuel/Deubrook Area had 10 athletes place, led by Zane Miller’s third-place finish at 157. Also placing for Deuel/Deubrook were Dusty Bolden (fifth, 106), Gavin Mattson (fourth, 120), Gage Landmark (sixth, 126), Erich Fokken (fourth, 132), Tyson Hagberg (fifth, 138), Ryker Gauger (fifth, 144), William Foulk (sixth, 165), Hayden Landmark (sixth, 175), and Raymond Klein (sixth, 285).

Haeden Jorgenson was Webster’s lone champion at 144. Tayten Kurkowski (126), Gage Baumgarn (190), and Matthew Angiolelli (215) took home runner-up finishes. Nathan Hubsch placed fourth at 175.

Hamlin/Castlewood had two athletes place, led by Tate Evenson’s second-place finish at 165. Guillermo Julian Cruz Arroyo placed sixth at 215.

The wrestling season concludes this week with the SDHSAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, Thursday through Saturday in Sioux Falls. SDPB will provide full coverage, including live streams of all mats on its website and YouTube.
