Shamrocks Sweep Minot Behind Late Surge and Overtime Thriller

MINOT, N.D. – The Watertown Shamrocks swept a weekend series against the Minot Minotauros this past weekend.

On Friday, despite being outshot 44-21, a three-goal barrage in the third period propelled Watertown past Minot 5-3.

Kyle Greene opened the scoring for Watertown with a short-handed goal at 11:36 of the first period. Jordan Gudridge added a goal at 18:54 of the second to give the Shamrocks a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.

Jachym Prusek and Anthony Spadaro brought Minot closer with goals just 31 seconds apart, but Justin Obrochta extended the Watertown lead to 4-2 at 10:13 of the third. A wild final minute saw Joe Rice hit an empty-netter with 1:23 remaining. Lucca Ori scored for Minot with 21 seconds left to make it 5-2, but four seconds later, Payton Struck sealed the win with another empty-net goal.

Mason Gudridge made 41 saves for Watertown, while Brian Cooke had 18 for Minot.

On Saturday, Kyle Greene played the hero in overtime as Watertown edged Minot 3-2.

Ty James and Volodymyr Naumenko gave the Minotauros an early 2-0 lead in the first. Owen Chartier put Watertown on the board with a power-play goal at 1:08 of the second period. Zach Borden tied the game at 2-2 at 11:01 of the third, and Greene secured the victory at 3:08 of the overtime period.

Gudridge recorded 36 saves for Watertown, while Chase Anderson made 37 for Minot.

Watertown (24-16-1-1) remains fourth in the Central Division. The Shamrocks have a home-and-home series scheduled this Friday and Saturday against the St. Cloud Norsemen.
