WATERTOWN, S.D. – Four different Watertown Lakers scored in a 4-2 win over the Rushmore Thunder to complete a weekend sweep of high school girls hockey action at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Harper Hendricks put the Lakers on the board at 13:31 of the second. Nylah Vannelli extended the lead to 2-0 at the 6:18 mark. Avery Eggers added a goal at 3:38 to make it 3-1 heading into the final frame. Emma Schleusner tapped in an unassisted goal at 16:53 of the third period, and Lilly Murray made it 4-1 at 10:56. Makenna Sanches added the final Thunder goal at 3:25.
Assists for Watertown went to Murray (2), Schleusner (2) and Vannelli. Kira Reppe earned the win in goal for the Lakers, while Bristol Simmons took the loss. Watertown outshot Rushmore 29-17.
In the boys’ half of the doubleheader, Watertown fell to Rushmore 12-0, mirroring Saturday’s result.
Goals for Rushmore came from Wyatt Reeder (4), Cayden Brozik (2), Remmington Mann (2), Andrew Welling, Brixton Steen, Cameron Ritter and Jackson Hepper.
The Watertown boys wrap up their regular season next weekend with a three-game homestand against Aberdeen, Oahe and Yankton.
The Laker girls have completed South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association regular-season play and await the varsity state tournament March 5-7 in Mitchell. Seeding has not yet been announced.
