WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Aberdeen Cougars outshot the Watertown Lakers 34-25 en route to a 5-3 win in high school boys hockey action Friday night at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.
Aberdeen got on the board early with back-to-back goals from Trayke Roehrich in the first period. Kolten Sutten put Watertown on the board with a power-play goal at 14:02 of the second to make it 2-1. Wheeler Malsam extended the Cougars’ lead to 3-1 at 3:17 of the second.
Colton Kasuske tapped one through for Watertown at 16:33 of the third to pull the Lakers within one at 3-2. However, Aberdeen struck back with goals from Brady Oswald and Carter Vilhauer to make it 5-2. Taite Marko tacked on another for Watertown in the closing seconds of the game.
Andrew Weisenburger earned the win in net for Aberdeen, while Kohl Nygaard took the loss for Watertown.
Watertown continues its regular-season-ending homestand this weekend, hosting the Oahe Capitals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Yankton at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
