Triple OT Thriller: Knopf Lifts Lakers Past Aberdeen in State Opener

MITCHELL, S.D. – Mikenna Knopf scored a power-play goal in triple overtime to lift the Watertown Lakers to a 1-0 opening-round win over the Aberdeen Cougars at the SDAHA Girls State Varsity Hockey Tournament on Thursday.

Knopf scored with 42 seconds remaining in the third overtime period off an assist from Piper Krueger.

Kira Reppe earned the shutout in net for Watertown, which outshot Aberdeen 45-33. Chloe Vikander took the loss for the Cougars.

Watertown advances to face Sioux Falls at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinal round.
