Richardson’s Late-Game Heroics Sink Shamrocks in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. — The Bismarck Bobcats swept a two-game series against the Watertown Shamrocks over the weekend.

The Bobcats took Friday night’s matchup 6-3. Bismarck opened the first period with goals from Frantisek Broz and Szilveszter Lippai. Owen Chartier kept Watertown in the game with a goal at the 3:44 mark, but the Bobcats extended their lead to 5-1 with a 3-goal second period featuring scores from Mark Evans (2) and Patch Cronin. Joe Rice brought the score to 5-2 at the 11:57 mark of the third before Alex Lunski added another for the Bobcats to make it 6-2. Kyle Greene scored for the Shamrocks with 16 seconds left in the contest. Bismarck led shots on goal 30-18.

On Saturday, an overtime goal by Theodore Richardson gave Bismarck a 2-1 victory. Watertown held a 1-0 lead for much of the game following a Justin Obrochta power-play goal at 17:37 of the first period. The Shamrocks maintained that lead until the final seconds of regulation when Richardson tied the game with 19 seconds remaining. Richardson then scored again in overtime to secure the sweep. Bismarck edged Watertown in shots on goal 23-22.

Watertown falls to 25-18-2-1 and remains fourth in the Central Division heading into a weekend series in Mason City against the North Iowa Bulls.
