PIERRE, S.D. — Brackets have been set for the Boys Class A and Class B State Basketball Tournaments.
In Class A, defending champion Sioux Falls Christian is again the top seed in the tournament with a 21-1 record. They will face No. 8 St. Thomas More to open the tournament next week. Last year’s runner-up, Hamlin, is back in the tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 20-3 record and will face No. 5 Groton Area (18-4) in the quarterfinal round. With a 20-2 record, Clark/Willow Lake has drawn the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 6 Stanley County (20-2) in the opening round. The Cyclones look to improve on last year’s eighth-place finish. Last year’s fifth-place finisher, West Central (22-0), is also back as the No. 2 seed and will take on Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (20-3). The Trojans enter as the tournament’s only undefeated team.
In Class B, last year’s runner-up, Viborg-Hurley, enters as the No. 1 seed with a 20-3 record. They will open against No. 8 Lyman. Defending champion Castlewood has drawn the No. 5 seed with a 20-3 record and will take on No. 4 Aberdeen Christian (20-3) to begin their tournament run. The Knights look to improve on last year’s seventh-place finish. The No. 2 seed is Freeman (21-2). The Flyers look to improve on last year’s sixth-place finish as they open against No. 7 Sully Buttes (18-5). De Smet heads to the tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 19-4 record. The Bulldogs look to win the title for the first time since 2023. They will begin their run against No. 6 Wall.
The 2026 Boys Basketball Tournaments run March 19-21. Class A will be held in Rapid City, while Class B will be held in Aberdeen.
