Castlewood Warriors Seek Class B Title Defense

ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Castlewood Warriors return to the Class B boys basketball tournament this year, aiming to defend their state championship.

Entering the bracket as the No. 5 seed, the Warriors (20-3) have faced only one other tournament qualifier this season: a 39-32 victory over De Smet on Feb. 3. Castlewood’s only losses came against Sioux Valley and two Class A tournament qualifiers, Hamlin and Clark/Willow Lake.

Junior Kamden Keszler leads the Castlewood offense, averaging 18 points per game and a team-high 78 assists. The supporting cast features senior Brody Bass (7 ppg) and sophomore Will Aderhold, who averages 10 points and leads the team with 162 rebounds. Senior Leonard Wernke trails closely on the boards with 143 rebounds while averaging nearly eight points. Seniors Tyson Manley and Trevor Everson have played in all 23 games, both averaging six points.

Castlewood opens the tournament at 1:45 p.m. Thursday against 20-3 Aberdeen Christian. SDPB will provide coverage on SDPB-TV2, SDPB.org/basketball, and YouTube.
