Wings Spoil St. Patrick’s Night Celebration for Shamrocks

WATERTOWN, S.D. — Luck was not on the Watertown Shamrocks’ side Tuesday night as they fell to the Aberdeen Wings 5-3 during a special St. Patrick’s night of NAHL hockey action.

Brody Dustin started the scoring for Aberdeen at 8:44 of the first period to give the Wings a 1-0 lead. Cooper Siegert tacked on another Wings goal at 16:04 of the second. Daniel Halonen got the Shamrocks on the board with a power-play goal at 13:22, but Aberdeen struck back with goals at 12:09 and 10:24 from Zan Spari-Leben and Gavin Reed to give the Wings a 4-1 lead heading into the third.

Zach Boren gave the Shamrocks hope with a power-play goal at 12:19 of the third to make it 4-2. Joe Rice brought Watertown within one at 4:51, but Cooper Anderson shut the door with an empty-netter with 1:12 remaining.

Aberdeen won despite being outshot by Watertown 35-27.

Watertown (27-19-2-1) remains home for a weekend series against the St. Cloud Norsemen. Puck drop both Friday and Saturday at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena is 7 p.m.
