Shamrocks Split Home Series with St. Cloud

WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown Shamrocks split a weekend home series against the St. Cloud Norsemen, following a shootout loss on Friday with a commanding victory on Saturday.

On Friday, Watertown fell 3-2 in a shootout. After the Norsemen took an early 1-0 lead, Owen Chartier tied the game for the Shamrocks at the 16:43 mark of the first period. St. Cloud’s Sam Crane regained the lead on a power play just a minute later, but Watertown’s Daniel Halonen leveled the score 2-2 at 8:05 of the second. Following a scoreless third period and overtime, Riley Fast and Dante Rodriguez secured the shootout win for the Norsemen.

The Shamrocks found redemption Saturday with a 4-1 win. Zach Norden opened the scoring on a power play at 12:30 of the first period, followed by a Kyle Greene goal at 10:11 to make it 2-0. St. Cloud’s Christian Garrity cut the lead to one later in the frame, but the Norsemen were held scoreless the rest of the way. After a quiet second period, Greene netted his second goal of the night at 4:32 of the third. Payton Struck added an empty-netter with 50 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Watertown (28-29-2-2) remains fourth in the Central Division and travel to St. Cloud on Thursday for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
