Longtime Watertown Wrestling Coach Marv Sherrill Passes

WATERTOWN, S.D. — Marv Sherrill, the most successful high school wrestling coach in South Dakota history, died Wednesday at age 84.

Sherrill led the Watertown Arrows for 35 years before retiring in 2003, amassing a state-record eight Class A championships and nine runner-up finishes. Over a career that included one season at Brookings, he compiled a record 504-151-13 dual mark while capturing 14 Eastern South Dakota Conference titles and 18 regional championships.

A 1998 inductee into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Sherrill also earned spots in the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame and the halls of fame for both the state’s wrestling and high school coaches associations.

Services are pending with Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.
