Deuel, GPL, and Clark/Willow Lake Post Strong Results at Scott Underwood Invite

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Local track and field teams kicked off the week at the Scott Underwood Invitational on the campus of South Dakota State University. The meet featured several standout performances from Deuel, Great Plains Lutheran, Clark/Willow Lake, and Hamlin.

Deuel
Gavin Kloos led the Cardinals with two top-10 finishes, placing seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.66 seconds and eighth in the 200 in 24.11. Caden Hourigan finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:09.71. In the 1,600, Tyson Hagberg took sixth in 4:50.74, followed by Sutton Benck in eighth at 4:54.38.

The relay team of Brock Johnson, Chris Gallardo, Kloos, and Axel Gallardo took fifth in the 4×100 relay (46.14). The 4×800 team of Benck, Hagberg, Hourigan, and Levi Peterson also placed fifth, clocking in at 8:49.39.

On the girls’ side, Sophie Trupe finished eighth in the 100 in 13.38. In the pole vault, Lauryn Peterreins placed third with a clearance of 9 feet, followed by Hannah Cutshaw in fifth, also clearing 9 feet.

Great Plains Lutheran
Lucas Johnson secured a victory for the Panthers, taking first place in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 inches. Milo Schumacher earned two top-10 finishes, placing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.38) and 10th in the 300 hurdles (44.75). Keturah Schleusener added a pair of top-10s, finishing eighth in the 200 (27.92) and 10th in the 100 (13.58).

Clark/Willow Lake
Cadence Bochek highlighted the Cyclones’ day, taking second in the 400 (1:00.06) and fifth in the 200 (27.63). In the hurdles, Emma Bochek took fifth in the 300 hurdles (50.27), while Zoe Nichols followed in seventh (50.46). Nichols also placed second in the high jump (4-10) and ninth in the 100 hurdles (17.00). Kamryn Nesheim added a fifth-place finish in the 800 (2:23.61).

The girls’ relay teams saw success as well. The 4×400 team of Emma Bochek, Nesheim, Jennifer Bevers, and Cadence Bochek took third (4:10.51). The 4×100 and 4×200 teams—comprised of Nevaeh Reitz, Madison Brenden, Kadee Frankfurth, and Kadee Hofer—both placed seventh with times of 52.72 and 1:53.97, respectively.

For the boys, Bo Begeman placed third in the high jump (6-00), and Michael Severson took fourth in the shot put. The 4×100 relay team (Lincoln Reidburn, Chris Bevers, Jakob Steen, and Talen Huber) placed sixth (46.45), while the 4×400 team (Reidburn, Bevers, Huber, and Damian Severson) finished eighth (3:44.58).

Hamlin
The Hamlin boys’ 4×200 relay team of Rylan Thue, Gavin Maag, Jonathan Leonardi, and Trig Heinrich placed ninth with a time of 1:38.30. Addelyn Jensen led the girls’ field efforts, placing fourth in the high jump (4-08) and sixth in the triple jump (30 feet, 6 inches/9.30m).
