ELKTON, S.D. — Great Plains Lutheran delivered a strong performance Friday at the Vince Relays, hosted at the Elkton Athletic Complex. The Panthers secured several top finishes across both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, highlighted by individual titles in the high jump.
Lucas Johnson led the boys’ team with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 6 feet. Johnson also earned second-place honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.34 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 54.85 seconds. Milo Schumacher added to the team’s success in the hurdles, taking second in the 300-meter hurdles at 44.21 seconds and third in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.60 seconds.
Other notable individual efforts for the boys included Sam Manian, who placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.63 seconds, and Titus Hofinga, who finished the 800-meter run in 2:19.55 to take fifth. In the field, Aiden Cameron threw 40 feet, 2.5 inches in the shot put to secure fifth place.
In the relay events, the 4×800-meter team of Holden Karli, William LaBerge, Benjamin Prahl and Hofinga took third place with a time of 9:32.60. The 4×100-meter relay squad, consisting of Grady Hermoe, Ryen Kjenstad, Andre Theron and Logan Bergan, finished fourth in 49.38 seconds.
On the girls’ side, Abigail Kjenstad claimed the top spot in the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 10 inches. Kjenstad also placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 31 feet. Keturah Schleusener proved a versatile threat on the track, finishing second in both the 100-meter dash at 13.46 seconds and the 200-meter dash at 27.40 seconds, while adding a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.96.
Julia Prahl anchored the girls’ field efforts with top-five finishes in three events. Prahl took third in the javelin with a toss of 98 feet, 6 inches, and earned fourth place in both the shot put at 30 feet, 5.75 inches and the discus at 87 feet, 2 inches.
