WATERTOWN, S.D. – A two-goal second period propelled Oahe past Watertown 3-2 in high school girls hockey Saturday at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena.
The Capitals’ Emily Nemec opened the scoring at 7:52 of the first period. Lily Murray answered for Watertown at 3:26 of the second period following an assist from Gracelyn Webb. Oahe reclaimed the lead just 36 seconds later on a goal by Mallory Lehrkamp. Brenna Ullmann extended the lead to 3-1 with only 29 seconds remaining in the second frame.
Sloane Allard brought Watertown within one at 4:09 of the third period, assisted by Emma Schluesner and Mikenna Knopf, but the Lakers could not find the equalizer.
Kylee Fromm earned the win in net for Oahe, while Kira Reppe took the loss for Watertown. The Capitals outshot the Lakers 26-12.
Watertown travels for a pair of games next weekend against Brookings and Aberdeen.
