Kasuske’s Four-Goal Surge Propels Lakers Past Mitchell

MITCHELL, S.D. — Colton Kasuske scored four goals and Colin Solheim added two more to lead the Watertown Lakers to an 8-6 win over the Mitchell Marlins on Sunday in high school boys hockey.

Kasuske opened the scoring at 9:25 of the first period on a power play off an assist from Jack Elshere. Boston Butler extended the Lakers’ lead to 2-0 at 8:05 of the first with Elshere’s second assist of the day. Although goals by Mitchell’s Everett Morrison and Preston Maeschen tied the game, Solheim gave Watertown a 3-2 lead heading into the second period with a goal at 2:14.

The Marlins rattled off three straight goals to start the second period for a 5-3 lead. However, Solheim sparked a Lakers comeback with a short-handed goal at 8:58 on an assist from Kasuske. Kasuske سپس tied the game at 2:55 off an assist from Solheim, and Quinten Jorgenson added an unassisted goal at 1:54 to give the Lakers a 6-5 edge heading into the third.

Kasuske completed his hat trick at 15:21 of the final period and followed it up less than a minute later with his fourth goal to make it 8-5. Morrison added a late goal for the Marlins with 44 seconds remaining.

Kohl Nygaard earned the win in net for the Lakers, while Gavin Polreis took the loss for Mitchell. Elshere and Solheim led Watertown with three assists each as the Lakers outshot the Marlins 46-29.

The Lakers return home next weekend for games against Sioux Falls East and Brookings.
