CLEAR LAKE, S.D. — Area track and field teams converged on Cardinal Field on Tuesday for the Pork Chop Relays, with Watertown, Deuel, Florence/Henry, and Waverly/South Shore athletes capturing several top finishes.
Watertown
The Watertown girls’ team saw a dominant performance from Alayna Smith, who swept the sprints with a 12.40-second finish in the 100-meter dash and a 25.69-second mark in the 200. On the distance side, Grace McElroy took first in the 1,600 meters (5:42.19), while the 4×800 relay team of Oliva Anderson, Grace List, Grace McElroy, and Kate McElroy also secured a victory. In field events, Elly Dingsor cleared 11 feet to win the pole vault, and Mayla McGhee took the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.
The Watertown boys were led by Dane Stark, who won the 800 meters in 1:56.75. Charlie Whiting delivered a standout performance in the pole vault, clearing 15 feet for first place. Other winners included Gage Robison in the 300 hurdles (43.37), Mason Iverson in the high jump (5-10), and Carter Clark in the long jump (18-8.25).
Deuel
Deuel’s girls’ team found success in both individual and relay events. Camdyn Peterreins swept the throwing events, winning the shot put (31-3) and discus (87-9). Paycee Lee (400 meters), Shyla Tvedt (3,200 meters), and Brooklyn Tanner (300 hurdles) all earned individual wins. The Deuel girls also took first in both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
On the boys’ side, Tyson Hagberg won the 3,200 meters in 10:27.80. The Cardinals also picked up wins in the 4×100 relay and the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay.
Florence/Henry and Waverly/South Shore
For Florence/Henry, Tucker Keller won the 110-meter hurdles (16.70), and Sierra Keller took the 800 meters (2:38.06).
Waverly/South Shore saw Marty Mickelson win the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 11.5 inches. Mickelson also anchored the winning 4×400 relay team. For the girls, Jaina Johnson secured a first-place finish in the long jump (15-1).
