MITCHELL, S.D. — The Watertown Arrow track and field teams recorded several top finishes Thursday at the Corn Palace Relays, led by three individual champions and a dominant showing in field events.
Charlie Whiting secured a first-place finish for the boys in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. On the girls’ side, Malia Kranz took the top spot in the discus with a throw of 143-09, while Elly Dingsor won the pole vault by clearing 12-01.
Top Girls’ Performers
The Arrow girls saw significant success in both sprints and field events. Anna Hirtz placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.64 seconds) and third in the 200-meter (26.73). Grace McElroy also earned a runner-up finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:31.83.
In the high jump, Mayla McGhee took second place at 5-05, followed by Reese Munger in fourth. Hensley Houge added a third-place finish in the pole vault (10-06), and Shauna Evenson placed fourth in the triple jump (35-05.50). Kranz added to her winning day with a third-place finish in the javelin (110-08), followed by Kali Ellis in sixth.
Top Boys’ Performers
The Arrow boys were highlighted by strong performances in the jumps and hurdles. Following Whiting’s victory in the pole vault, Merrik Engels and Mason Iverson took third and fourth place, respectively, in the high jump.
On the track, Dane Stark finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:54.93. Hurdlers Gage Robison (300-meter) and Tayson Suman (110-meter) also placed in the top eight. Daniel Henrichs rounded out the scoring for the boys with a seventh-place finish in the javelin.
