CLEAR LAKE, S.D. — The Deuel girls track and field team utilized home-field advantage Tuesday, sprinting to a first-place finish at the 2026 Kiwanis Relays. The Cardinals posted a team score of 181 to lead the field, while the Deuel boys secured a second-place finish with 151.5 points.
Great Plains Lutheran took third place in both divisions, with the boys scoring 122.5 and the girls finishing with 97.
Girls Division Highlights
Deuel’s Addison Timmons dominated the track, sweeping the 100-meter (13.24) and 200-meter (26.96) dashes. Timmons also anchored the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams alongside Laycee Andersen, Alayna Carlson, and Sophie Trupe.
Other individual winners for the Cardinals included Paycee Lee in the 400-meter, Amerial Giese in the 800-meter, and Shyla Tvedt, who took the 3,200-meter run in 14:01.59.
Abigail Kjenstad led Great Plains Lutheran with a win in the high jump (4’8”), while Jaina Johnson of Waverly/South Shore took the long jump title with a leap of 15 feet, 3 inches. Estelline/Hendricks’ Emma Gilbertson rounded out the field events with a victory in the javelin (97’ 7”).
Boys Division Highlights
The boys’ competition featured standout performances from Castlewood’s Brody Bass, who claimed individual gold in the 110-meter hurdles (15.60) and the javelin (144’ 8”). Bass also helped lead the Warriors’ 4×400 relay team to a first-place finish.
Host team Deuel saw a strong performance from Oliver Fieber, who won the 200-meter dash in 22.41, and Caden Hourigan, who took the 800-meter title. The Cardinals’ relay team swept the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×800 events.
Great Plains Lutheran’s Milo Schumacher secured a win in the 300-meter hurdles (43.10), while teammate Lucas Johnson cleared 6 feet to win the high jump.
Other notable winners included Nolan Eidson of Castlewood in the 1,600-meter, Austin Hovitek of Waverly/South Shore in the 400-meter, and Cooper Schaefer of Estelline/Hendricks in the 3,200-meter.
