WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown baseball community is mourning the loss of Marty VanHeel, a longtime baseball advocate and Hall of Fame inductee who died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
VanHeel was a pillar of local athletics, serving on the Watertown Baseball Association board from 1993 to 2008. His leadership spanned over a decade as board president, a position he held from 1994 through 2004.
In recognition of his extensive contributions to the sport and the community, VanHeel was inducted into the inaugural class of the Watertown Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.
Services are pending with Wight and Comes.
