Watertown Track Shines with Multi-Event Victories at Brookings Alumni Meet

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Watertown track and field team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday at the Brookings Alumni Meet, fueled by several first-place finishes and a sweep of multiple relay events.

Dane Stark led the boys’ side with a victory in the 1,600-meter run, clocking a time of 4:23.10. He also added a third-place finish in the 3,200 meters. The 3,200-meter team of Tucker Lunde, Isaiah Norton, Garret McGillivary, and Logan Becker took first place with a time of 9:11.19. The 800-meter relay team secured a second-place finish.

In field events, the Arrow boys earned runner-up spots in the high jump (Merrik Engels), long jump (Holton Schutt), and triple jump (Ben Dougan), while Huter Peterson placed third in the shot put.

The Watertown girls were equally impressive, particularly in the sprints and relays. Carighan Klatt won the 200-meter dash in 27.48 seconds and helped anchor the winning 400-meter relay team (49.39 seconds). The Arrows also claimed gold in the 800-meter and 3,200-meter relays.

Other individual standouts for the girls included Malia Kranz, who won the javelin with a toss of 110 feet, 4 inches, and Shauna Evenson, who took first in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 1.25 inches. Grace McElroy (1,600m), Jayda Jensen (800m), and Allison Konrad (shot put and discus) all contributed second-place finishes.

Watertown returns to action Friday, hosting the Watoma Relays at the Allen Mitchell Athletic Complex.
