ARLINGTON, S.D. — The Elkton-Lake Benton boys and De Smet girls surged to the top of the leaderboard Thursday, capturing team titles at the Dakota Valley Conference track meet in Arlington.
The Elkton-Lake Benton boys finished with a dominant 190.5 points to secure first place, while the De Smet girls posted a score of 142 to lead the field.
Estelline/Hendricks Highlights
The Redhawks delivered several standout performances, highlighted by a victory in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay. The team of Eli Brown, Kade Hauck, Regan Schwartz, and Cooper Schaefer clocked a winning time of 3:50.17.
Schaefer also found individual success on the track, taking second place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:42.61.
On the girls’ side, Maggie Hausman cleared 9 feet to claim first place in the pole vault. Teammate Riah Hartung added to the Redhawks’ medal count with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 12.94 seconds.
Castlewood Standouts
The Castlewood boys finished fifth in the team standings with 67.5 points, bolstered by three individual event winners.
Brody Bass led the Warriors with two gold medals. Bass swept the 110-meter hurdles in 15.03 seconds and followed up with a victory in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 150-3.
Nolan Eidson added another title for Castlewood, winning the 3200-meter run in 10:43.50. The Warriors’ 1600-meter sprint medley relay team, consisting of Yader Munoz, Dalkton Moorhouse, Will Aderhold, and Leo Takecareof, finished second with a time of 3:51.99.
