ABERDEEN, S.D. — Two local powerhouses are peaking at the right time as they head into the 2026 SDHSAA Class B State Softball Tournament this weekend in Aberdeen.
Top-seeded Castlewood and third-seeded Florence/Henry both carry significant momentum and state-tournament experience into the three-day event, which runs through Saturday.
Castlewood (18-4) enters the tournament on a six-game winning streak. Making their fourth consecutive state appearance, the Warriors are looking to build on a sixth-place finish last year.
The Warriors’ only blemishes this season came against Deuel and a trio of Class A opponents: Madison, Sioux Valley and Beresford. Castlewood opens tournament play at 10 a.m. against No. 8 seed Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy.
Florence/Henry (15-4) claims the No. 3 seed and is riding a seven-game winning streak. The Falcons, who finished fifth at the state tournament a year ago, suffered their four losses this season to West Central, Beresford, Deuel and top-seeded Castlewood.
The Falcons will open their tournament run in the final game of the first round against No. 6 seed Gayville-Volin.
The rest of the opening-round bracket features No. 4 Hanson taking on No. 5 Avon at noon, followed by No. 2 McCook Central/Montrose facing off against No. 7 Redfield.
