ABERDEEN, S.D. — Florence/Henry wrapped up its state tournament run with an eighth-place finish following a loss to Avon in the seventh-place game at the SDHSAA Class B State Softball Tournament.
Avon used explosive third, fifth, and seventh innings to secure the victory and take home the seventh-place trophy.
Ashlynn Vavruska and Emma Caulfield led the Falcons’ offense with two hits apiece. Kaylee Vavruska added the only other hit for Florence/Henry, while Ashlynn Vavruska and Jayda Orthaus each drove in a run.
Elizabeth Reiter started in the circle for the Falcons, striking out seven batters and allowing 10 runs on eight hits over five innings. Caulfield pitched two innings in relief and took the loss.
Avon’s offense was powered by two-hit performances from Rilyn Thury, Brielle Voigt, and Kaydence Metzger. Metzger also earned the complete-game victory, limiting Florence/Henry to three runs on five hits while striking out eight.
Florence/Henry concludes its season with a 15-7 record. The game marked the final high school appearance for Falcons seniors Cami Flemming, Elizabeth Reiter, and Kali Hanson.
