RAPID CITY, S.D. — After severe weather forced a postponement Saturday, Watertown Post 17 dropped both games of a Sunday doubleheader to Rapid City Post 22, falling 4-3 and 12-2.
Rapid City 4, Watertown 2
In the opener, Rapid City jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning. Watertown rallied in the fifth when Markus Pitkin launched a three-run home run to bring the Arrows within one.
Watertown threatened again in the seventh inning after a Cain Everson walk and a Carter Busiker single put two runners aboard. However, back-to-back strikeouts by Pitkin and Sam Olson, followed by a Jonathan Lake groundout, ended the comeback bid.
Brody Lee earned the win for the Hardhats, holding Watertown to one hit and three runs over 4 2/3 innings. Tripp Jorgenson took the loss for the Arrows, allowing four runs on five hits while walking five in 5 1/3 innings. Pitkin, Busiker, and Lake accounted for Watertown’s three hits.
Rapid City 12, Watertown 2 (5 Innings)
Game two saw Rapid City take control early once again, scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the fourth. The Hardhats triggered the run rule in the fifth inning by scoring five runs on four hits.
Declan Mickley picked up the victory, giving up five hits and two runs over five innings. Josh Elder went 2-for-3 for Rapid City, while Hadley Burrus and Kain McLeod each drove in two runs.
Kye Palson and Ashton Rabine led the Watertown offense, each finishing with a hit and an RBI. Lincoln Schutt, Lake, and Hansen also recorded hits for the Arrows. Kooper Heister pitched 3 1/3 innings in the loss, allowing seven runs on four hits with six walks.
