Stevenson strikes out 11 as Lake Norden/Badger holds off Castlewood

LAKE NORDEN, S.D. — Teague Stevenson struck out 11 batters in a complete-game performance to lift Lake Norden/Badger past Castlewood 6-5 on Tuesday, mirroring the outcome of the teams’ meeting earlier this month.

Lake Norden/Badger (2-6), which defeated Castlewood 7-4 on June 15, held off a late-inning rally to secure the season sweep.

Both offenses ignited early, combining for seven runs in the first inning. Castlewood struck first with three runs in the top of the frame, but Lake Norden/Badger answered with four runs in the bottom half. The hosts extended their lead in the second inning courtesy of an Evan Schultz RBI single and a Castlewood defensive error.

Castlewood (1-11) chipped away at the deficit when Brody Bass stole home during a pickoff attempt at first base. Castlewood pulled within one run in the seventh inning following a Lake Norden/Badger error. With the tying run on second base and two outs, Stevenson struck out Bass swinging to end the comeback.

Stevenson earned the victory, allowing five runs on five hits over seven innings. Jose Mahe and Stevenson led Lake Norden/Badger at the plate with two hits each, while Mahe and Schultz each drove in a run.

Davis Giles took the loss for Castlewood, allowing six runs on five hits while striking out four in four innings of work. Bass pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Kyp Eidson paced Castlewood offensively, going 2-for-3. T. Everson and Bass each recorded an RBI in the loss. Castlewood was plagued by five defensive errors.
