Schliesman’s late home run powers Castlewood past Elkton

CASTLEWOOD, S.D. — A four-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Castlewood Ravens to a 5-3 victory over the Elkton Snappers in South Dakota amateur baseball action Friday night.

Trailing 2-1 late in the game, the Ravens recaptured the lead when Nate Phinney drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the score. Blayne Schliesman followed with a dramatic three-run home run, putting Castlewood ahead 5-2.

Elkton attempted a comeback in the top of the ninth inning, utilizing a solo home run from Nate Shullcross to narrow the deficit, but the Snappers could not overcome the late damage.
