LAKE NORDEN, S.D. — Big innings and strong complete-game pitching performances carried Lake Norden/Badger Post 260 to a doubleheader sweep over Webster Post 40 on Friday.
Lake Norden/Badger took the opening game 5-4 before exploding offensively to secure an 11-4 victory in the nightcap.
Game 1: Lake Norden/Badger 5, Webster 4
A five-run second inning provided all the offense Lake Norden/Badger needed to edge Webster in the opener.
Webster threatened to rally in the top of the fifth inning, putting two runners on base with two outs. However, Lake Norden/Badger pitcher Evan Schultz induced a game-ending strikeout from Zayden Finch to stifle the comeback.
Schultz earned the victory with a determined complete-game effort. Over five innings, he allowed four runs on four hits while striking out seven.
Teage Stevenson, Jose Mahe, and Schultz each recorded a hit to pace the Post 260 offense.
Webster was led by Martin Dorsett, who drove in two runs. Dorsett, Matthew Mount, Tucker Acree, and Sheldon Schmieg each collected a hit for Post 40. Jack Shoemaker absorbed the loss, surrendering five runs on three hits while striking out seven over four innings of work.
Game 2: Lake Norden/Badger 11, Webster 4
In the second game, Lake Norden/Badger used a six-run third inning to break the contest open and cruise to an 11-4 win.
The decisive third-inning rally began with a Kobe Stevenson single that drove in a run. Maddox Jacobsen followed with an RBI groundout, and Angel Rocha added a run-scoring single. Teague Stevenson capped the outburst with a bases-clearing single that brought home three runs.
Rocha led the Post 260 attack, finishing a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs.
Kobe Stevenson earned the win on the mound, delivering a dominant five-inning performance. He allowed four runs on five hits and struck out nine.
Dylan Rasmus and John Coon each collected two hits for Webster in the loss, while Shoemaker contributed two RBIs. Dylan Carlson started on the hill for Post 40, allowing three runs on two hits over two innings.
With the sweep, Lake Norden/Badger improves to 4-9 on the season.
