Clark/Willow Lake Splits Weekend Games at Rotary Tournament

CLARK, S.D. — A massive seven-run second inning propelled Clark/Willow Lake past Milbank 10-2 on Friday in the second game of the Clark Rotary Tournament, before the Cyclones dropped a 13-1 decision to Lennox on Saturday.

Against Milbank, Clark/Willow Lake relied on a balanced offensive attack and a dominant pitching performance from Watson Granthem. Cade Gaikowski and Caleb Drenth each collected two hits for the Cyclones, while Charlie Luvaas, Cooper Pommer, Gaikowski, and Drenth each drove in a run.

Granthem earned the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and two runs over five innings. He struck out nine and walked two.

Milbank was led by Bennett Hunt, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Tyler Heinje and Aiden Kelly also picked up hits for Milbank. Mack Koplin took the loss, allowing 10 runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking four over four innings.

On Saturday, Lennox used an eight-run fourth inning to defeat Clark/Willow Lake 13-1 in a game shortened to four innings due to the run rule.

Lennox racked up 14 hits in the contest, led by two hits apiece from Gabe Veurink, Cole Spieler, Jaxon Bittner, Griffen Boomgarden, and Jackson Anacker. Nate Haar, Veurink, and Anacker each drove in two runs. Talen Eich earned the victory, tossing all four innings while allowing one run on two hits and striking out five.

Pommer and Drenth collected the only two hits of the day for Clark/Willow Lake. Luvaas took the loss, allowing 11 earned runs on 12 hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Clark/Willow Lake (12-3) will travel to Webster on Thursday.
