Milbank Capitalizes on Nine Lake Norden Errors for 5-4 Walk-Off Win

MILBANK, S.D. — A costly ninth-inning error allowed the Milbank Firechiefs to walk off with a 5-4 victory over the Lake Norden Lakers on Friday night in South Dakota amateur baseball action.

Lake Norden built a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before Milbank began its comeback. The Firechiefs scored two runs in the fifth when Brady Krause grounded into a fielder’s choice and Dom Boerger reached on a Lakers error.

Milbank trimmed the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth after Kaden Krause lined out to right field to drive in a run.

The Firechiefs completed the rally in the bottom of the ninth. Isaac Schulte laid down a sacrifice bunt that, paired with a Lake Norden error, allowed two runs to cross the plate and secure the walk-off win. In total, the Lakers committed nine errors on the night.

Turner Stevenson led Lake Norden at the plate, going 2-for-4. Jesse Vanoverbeke, Kale Stevenson, Hunter Janzen and Cody Trumm each drove in a run for the Lakers.

Kale Stevenson started on the mound for Lake Norden, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings. J. Cleveland pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out six.

Boerger, Tanner Hallquist, Merik Junker, and Tyler, Brady, and Kaden Krause each collected a hit for the Firechiefs. Tyler Krause, Schulte and Kaden Krause each credited an RBI.

Brady Krause started on the hill for Milbank, throwing six innings and allowing four runs on six hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Kaden Krause earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out six.

Lake Norden (4-9) travels to Colton on Monday, while Milbank (5-5) hosts Castlewood on Sunday.
