SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Brookings golfer Parker Edens captured the South Dakota Golf Association Men’s Amateur Championship on Sunday, defeating Dakota Munger of Pukwana on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff at Elmwood Golf Course.
Both golfers finished the three-day individual tournament tied at 10-under-par 206. Edens shot rounds of 67, 68, and 71, while Munger carded 69, 67, and 70 before Edens secured the title with a birdie in extra holes.
Jake Olson led the Watertown-area contingent, finishing in a tie for fourth place. Olson posted a 7-under-par 209 for the tournament after carding rounds of 68, 69, and 72.
Other Watertown finishers in the men’s division included Bob West (220), Ty Lenards (221), Jaden Solheim (225), Jerome Zebroski (233), Max Stemwedel (235), Colby West (245), Tyler VanHecke (246), Gabe Norber (262), and Brecken Jungen (276). Jonathan DeBoer of Twin Brooks also competed, finishing with a three-day score of 223.
On the women’s side, Kaitlin Strain of Rapid City claimed the amateur championship, finishing the three-day event with a 1-over-par 217 (76-70-71).
Watertown’s Brynn Roehrich earned a top-five finish, tying for fifth place with a three-day total of 225 (78-71-76). Fellow Watertown golfer Gabi Olson placed 12th overall, finishing the tournament with a 239 (81-81-77).
