Koplin’s walk-off caps wild comeback as Milbank edges Castlewood

MILBANK, S.D. — Mack Koplin delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Milbank Post 9 to a thrilling 9-8 victory over Castlewood Post 250 on Thursday night.

Castlewood held a 6-4 advantage heading into the sixth inning and extended its cushion to 8-4 following a two-run double by Logan McMillan.

Milbank mounted its comeback in the bottom of the frame. Bennett Hunt drove in two runs with a single, and Tyler Heinje followed with an RBI single to trim the deficit to 8-7.

After holding Castlewood scoreless in the top of the seventh, Milbank tied the game when Kye Scoular scored on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Koplin’s game-winning hit.

Milbank collected 13 hits in the contest, led by Koplin, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Koplin also started on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. Hunt earned the victory in relief, giving up two runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings while adding two hits and scoring four runs at the plate.

Kaden Nedved, McMillan, and Trevor Everson each had two hits for Castlewood. McMillan and Everson drove in two runs apiece. Nedved took the loss, allowing nine runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts in six innings.

With the win, Milbank improves to 15-10, while Castlewood drops to 2-13.
