LAKE NORDEN, S.D. — A seven-run seventh inning propelled the Volga Cormorants past the Lake Norden Lakers 13-2 in South Dakota amateur baseball action Friday night.
The Volga onslaught was highlighted by Kyler Bezdichek, who hit a two-run home run. Jordan Kathol added a two-run single, while Tate Walerious and Trevor Olson each delivered two-run triples. Layne Lucas capped the explosive inning with an RBI single.
The Cormorants collected 17 hits in the contest, led by Lucas, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Bayley Colemer finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while Olson, Connor Gross, and Walerious each recorded multiple hits.
Olson also dominated on the mound, tossing a complete game. Over eight innings, he struck out 11 batters while allowing just four hits and two runs.
Josh Cleveland paced Lake Norden at the plate, going 2-for-4. Kale Stevenson provided a bright spot for the Lakers with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Jordon Johnson started on the mound for Lake Norden, yielding 13 hits and 11 runs — 10 earned — over 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked four.
Lake Norden next competes in the Region 1B tournament, scheduled for July 25-30 in Castlewood.
