Castlewood rallies in final frame for walk-off win over Volga

CASTLEWOOD, S.D. — Alex Gauer hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to left field in the final inning Sunday, lifting the Castlewood Ravens to a 3-2 victory over the Volga Cormorants in South Dakota amateur baseball action.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the final frame, Castlewood tied the game when Treyton Himmerich hit a solo home run to left field. Gauer’s sacrifice fly moments later sealed the comeback win.

The Ravens finished with 10 hits, led by multi-hit performances from Gauer, Gus Steiger, and Tucker Wookey, who each collected two hits. Blayne Schliesman, Himmerich, and Gauer drove in one run apiece.

Gauer also started on the mound for Castlewood, giving up one run on one hit while striking out five over five innings. Kellan Benck earned the win in relief, striking out seven and allowing one run on one hit over four innings.

Connor Gross led the Cormorants at the plate, going 2-for-4. Bayley Colemer drove in both of Volga’s runs.

Jordan Sagedahl started for Volga, allowing three hits over three scoreless innings. Kyler Bezdichek took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits while striking out four over 5 2/3 innings.

Castlewood will host the District 1B tournament from July 25 through July 30.
